How the AICP layout works
The form groups costs into lettered sections. Labor sections (prep crew, shoot crew, art department labor) carry days, rate, overtime and fringes. Expense sections carry quantity, days and rate. The top sheet rolls every section up and adds the markups agencies compare across bids:
- Production fee: the company's fee on production costs. The template starts at 22%.
- Insurance: production insurance on the costs it covers. The template starts at 2%.
- Fringes: payroll taxes and benefits on labor. The template starts at 35%; change it per section or per line.
- Talent: agency fees and payroll handling on cast.
- Post: editorial, audio, finishing and visual effects, with their own markup.
Every one of these is a setting you can change for the job. More detail: production fee and insurance, fringes, handling, markup and tax.
Why bid in the AICP format
Agencies compare three bids line by line. When every bid uses the same sections and line numbers, the comparison is about the work rather than the layout. It also keeps the job consistent from bid to wrap: the same line the client approved is the line you post actuals against.
