Production fee
The production fee is the company's markup on the job. The template starts at 22%. By default it is charged on sections A to K and on talent expenses (N). Director's fees, talent, travel and the extra production section can be included in each section's settings. Some agencies cap the fee or tell you which sections it may sit on. Follow that, and say so in the notes.
Production insurance
Insurance is the cost of insuring the shoot, not a profit line. The template starts at 2%, charged on sections A to K, talent, talent expenses and travel. Post has its own insurance, also starting at 2%.
Fringes
Fringes are the employer's payroll costs on crew wages. They are not a markup on the whole job. The template starts at 35% on labor sections, and you can override that per section or per line. The full explanation is production budget fringes.
Talent fees and handling
Talent is marked up differently from crew. The template starts talent agency fees at 20% of the talent subtotal plus any usage you tick, and talent payroll service at zero until you set it. Handling, for processing talent or other expenses, starts at zero. M, N and O can carry their own handling rate.
Post markup, tax and the Section X fee
- Post markup starts at 15%, and only on post lines you mark.
- Post tax starts at zero, on lines you mark.
- Section X production fee starts at 15% of the visual effects, design and animation total.
Bid, running and actual
On the bid, fee and insurance are a percentage of the flagged sections, or a fixed amount if the deal says so. Once you are spending, running and actual can keep that percentage on their own costs, stay at the same dollars as the bid, or use a fixed amount. Set that in budget settings before you lock. After the bid is locked, the rates are frozen until you unlock.
